POST 4 — Torque Reserve & larger duration camshafts
More timing = more torque = ECU closes the throttle blade.
But with big cams and overlap, this causes reversion — pulling exhaust gases in during intake — which kills combustion and causes idle surge.
Solution: use less timing → more throttle blade opening → higher MAP → better oxygen → Torque Reserve.
Torque Reserve gives the ECU control room to instantly adjust idle using timing advance.
