Idle Routine Tables Explained (Gen IV E38 / E67) — Part 1

Apr 7, 2025, 12:00 PM

This is going to be a 4 part series explaining Idle Routine and how to calibrate it on the Gen IV GM controllers.

Idle Routine Tables Explained (Gen IV E38 / E67)

Preface:
This post is a breakdown of how the idle routine tables work, specifically for Gen IV E38 / E67 controllers. The same logic often applies to E40 and E92. Screenshots are from EFILive, but the tuning suite does not matter — we are working with the controller itself.

Idle Torque / HP concepts

Torque output at idle follows this rule:

Torque Produced − Torque Load = Torque Output

More torque + less load = higher RPM.

Torque = Airflow + Fuel (adjusted by ignition timing).
